Abstract
rsities and higher education, research and technology institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology are the official scientific spaces of our country, and the main actors of these spaces are their faculty members. A faculty member is a social role, and the regulations for the promotion of teaching and research faculty members specify a set of official expectations for faculty members, expectations based on which the activities of a person in the position of faculty member are guided and are expected to be directed in response to the provisions of the regulations. This article, within the framework of the theoretical-methodological approach of "ethnographic methodology" and based on the results of interviews with 23 faculty members in 4 fields, including a faculty and a social sciences research institute and a faculty and a technical-engineering research institute, shows how faculty members evaluate the promotion regulations and what their experience is in trying to formulate their scientific activities based on the expectations defined in these regulations. Based on the findings, the interviewees believe that the value system defined in the promotion regulations and the way it values scientific activities conflict with the value system of faculty members and what they consider appropriate for themselves, and these conflicts were explained in the form of three main criticisms: "the regulations are simplistic", "the regulations are derogatory", and "laying the ground for corruption and scientific fraud".
