Abstract
The book Academic Pedagogy: Dialectic of Opinion and Practice is an academic and scientific work by Mohammad Yemeni Douzi Sorkhabi, one of the distinguished experts in higher education in Iran. In this book, the author has considered and reflected a number of aspects worth noting for such as the ever-increasing complexities of academic systems, and a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach regarding the nature of pedagogy in complex teaching-learning situations in universities.  The book which consists of 10 chapters, with its originality and novelty in Iran, can serve as an impetus to reflect on the complex teaching-learning situations in universities and criticize the linear view on the author’s part. By taking a glance at this book, it can be said that the strengths outweigh the weaknesses, including: the existence of a critical spirit, a complex thought, a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach in discussing the subject, dynamism, coherent communication, novelty, and attractiveness are among the topics of the chapters that can have major imprint on the current higher education studies and the audience. But the most important criticism of this book is its failure to provide a clear definition of the concept of academic pedagogy despite an extensive discussion about the subject as well as contradictions in the initial claim by the author. The other shortcoming is complex concepts and the broadness of the subject of academic pedagogy that do not help readers properly understand it.
