Abstract
As a science institution, the university is an important and effective organization in the age of science and information. Therefore, it is necessary to reach a comprehensive idea or a proper expansion of the current idea in a way that preserves its entire identity. The idea of the university should be able to cover all the missions of this institution, from active presence in the context of dailylife to expanding the boundaries of science; Of course, somehow prevents to reduce to a commercial, economic or content production entity. Ever since Kant proposed the "conflict of the faculties", the question of university actually reached to philosophy. After Kant, other philosophers such as Heidegger, Gadamer, Jaspers and Habermas were also reflected on this idea. recently, when role of the university in everydaylife has increased, other fields have also addressed this category. In this article, we want to show to achieve a comprehensive idea for the university, it is necessary to be examined the university from non-positivist philosophy of science perspective; Because the ideas from other fields don't have the required comprehensiveness, and the purely philosophical ideas are not concrete and effective in the specific problem. For this, we first review the historical course of the idea of the university and show that science is either neglected or unclear in these ideas. In continue, we examine two contemporary views whose ideas are more related to science and show that these two are unsatisfied; despite they have a deeper view of science, but since the origination of their idea was philosophy of education, they see science just from educational view not universal. Finally, we state the reasons of neglected of philosophy of science from the category of the university: the first reason, consent to the general concept of science in the begining, the second reason, the newness of this field, and the third reason, the incompatibility of the common approaches of this field with the university discussion. However, it is hoped that with expansion of this field and its new approaches, a way can be found to deal with the idea of the university.
